Wimmera job seekers spoke with employers and former AFL player Paul Licuria about what it takes to gain employment

WIMMERA job seekers received some special advice on how to maximise their employability last Thursday.

The young job seekers had the chance to speak to Wimmera business owners about how to be more appealing to potential employers thanks to Horsham E-Works Employment Solutions.

There was also a chance to discuss potential online courses and training with Alffie, a registered training organisation headed by former AFL footballer Paul Licuria.

E-Works site supervisor Jaye Macumber said the visit was a great chance for job seekers registered with E-Works to find out what employers looked for in potential employees.

It was a great opportunity for them to mingle with local businesses, and they responded very positively, he said.

The job seekers presented very well for the occasion, they provided resumes, they really responded very well.

They got some great advice on what to do and what not to do when you go for a job.

To kick off proceedings, Paul Lewis of Wimmera Outdoors addressed the group about his passion for helping young people find employment in the area.

Intersports Shayne Breuer, Schier Cabinet Makers Mal Schier and Cafe Figtrees Brad Koenig also spoke on what employers looked for on a resume and provided tips on presentation.

Licuria and Mary Miljanovic from Alffie then talked to the four job seekers about the courses on offer.

Alffie also discussed courses with employers who want to upskill their current staff.
